In 1969, H.D. Neal opened Railway Freight and sold just about everything he could get delivered via the railway. He carried new and discontinued merchandise, from building supplies and groceries to furniture and appliances...literally everything!
After Several years, H.D. Neal started focusing on furniture and appliances but the name remained the same. In 1980, W.T. Neal bought his brothers business and Railway Freight had become well known in Albany Georgia as the place to go for quality furniture and the name had to stay. As the business continued to grow W.T. Neal and two of his sons, Jeff and Steve Neal expanded to a second location in Americus Georgia.
Jeff and Steve took over Railway Freight in the early 90's. Since then, the business has continued to grow and a third store was introduced in Tifton Georgia.
Tifton, Georgia was assessed to be a great site for locating the quality furniture business being conducted in the other two locations. With the assistance of Steve and Jeff Neal, J. Mullinax (son-in-law of the Albany founder, HD Neal), was acquired to begin the newest addition. In January of 1999, J. solely took over the reins and has continued the tradition of offering furniture at affordable prices.

In fact, because our prices are so low, you'll see a lot of the furniture on our floor selling fast. This means our furniture displays have to be changed and updated regularly. So it's not surprising to see something new in our stores all the time.

Phillips Furniture was founded by the late Herbert Phillips. His experience in the furniture industry began when he worked part-time at Family Furniture with the Air Force at Robins Air Force Base. After leaving the Air Force in 1960, he began selling furniture full-time with the store. In 1980, Herbert went into a partnership with Family Furniture and sold used furniture to the community. Finally, in 1983 he opened Phillips Furniture and quickly gained the respect of both private customers and business relationships alike from his customer service and love of people.
